QTH/P #1
My QTH #1 is my exclusive DX place that is accessible only for a maximum of 3 contests a year since it is on the very top of the Krkonose Mts at an altitude of 1411 mtrs a.s.l. and falls into the locator/grid sq. JO70SS. It is very difficult to operate from this location for a number of reasons, the main one of which is unpredictable harsh weather. This beautiful DX spot is covered by 4 to 8 feet of snow from November till May and so if I get lucky and the WX permits, I can go on the air from here during field days and VHF September contests.
This particular place yields a beautiful scenery all around, including distant flickering lights of Hradec Kralove and Prague at night. All directions are open except for about 20 degrees due north-north-east, covered by a mountain top roughly 100 meters higher than my 2nd QTH/P. But since it is about 3 kilometers away from this spot, it doesn't really create that much of an obstacle for 2-meter operations into SM, SP, or UA2.
I have experienced nice openings into SM, LA, and G. The radius of operation for 2 meters is about 1000 kms with a 10 el. Yagi and 100 watts. Dad OK1WU has worked CT4KQ (2125 km) from here with 20 watts output of a small FT290RII. and a 13 el. F9FT during the 1995 Field Day. My ODX from here is a G station about 1220 km during the same contests that year.
