FIELD DAY 2008

Field Day 2008 was over for me before it started. A weekly WX forecast indicated low pressure area and cold front to sweep across central Europe in advance. This ominous prediction was realized to the full extent of its meaning. I had decided not to run in this contest despite the fact that the Czech Government gave me the mandatory authorization to drive my vehicle to JO70SS and operate from this location.

I did go up there – on the Friday before the contest – just out of my pure curiosity. This is what it looked like up at 1411 mtrs a.s.l.

Instead of screaming and yelling “cq contest” into the mic, spent the day at work and then in the evening, I met up with my friends in Prague – this time, my girl-friends won:) I stopped by OL3Z to say hi and then had a wonderful evening with my friends I had not seen for a long time.

Sunday afternoon, I drove to JO70SS just to see what it looked like up there during the last few contest hours.

In the evening, another cold front hit us pretty badly. To sum it up, the harsh rain that abated at 14:00 UTC Saturday afternoon and started back up at 15:00 UTC Sunday afternoon would have given me a nice yet rather cold shower and I wanted to avoid that. And I did.

This time, I decided to stay as a passive observer without any participation whatsoever.

Best 73s and good DX
